Portland Autism Center is currently accepting new referrals for autism spectrum disorder evaluations focusing on the question of moderate to high functioning ASD ages 8 years and up (for those seeking evaluations for individuals under 8 years old, please refer to our Community Resources page for other providers in the area).

Types of evaluations available

Autism Spectrum Disorder Evaluations

ASD Screening Diagnostic Interview

Self-Referral: Accepted.

Length: One 60-minute session.

Ages: 18 years and up.

Focus: Are you wondering if you might be on the autism spectrum?  Have you been looking up the symptoms of autism spectrum disorder or reading the stories of those on the spectrum and it sounds like your experience?  Are you thinking you would like to learn more about if you might be on the autism spectrum, but are unsure if you should invest your time and resources into a comprehensive autism evaluation?  If you answered YES to these questions, then an Autism Screening Diagnostic Interview could be what you are looking for. During this session, you will meet with one of Portland Autism Center’s licensed clinical psychologists who will explore your past and present experiences to see if it makes sense to pursue either an Autism Rule-Out Evaluation or a Comprehensive Autism Evaluation.

Pros: Can help you organize your thoughts and provides input into whether further explorations of ASD should be pursued.  Results provided at end of session.  Patients can self-refer for this service.

Cons: Does not definitively establish if you have ASD or not. May not be covered by your insurance.

Self-Referral: Not accepted for this evaluation.  This evaluation can only be completed following the completion of an ASD Screening Diagnostic Interview.

Length: Five 60-minute sessions.

Focus:  The ASD Rule-Out Evaluation is for individuals who are looking for more information that the ASD Screening Diagnostic Interviewprovides or whose presentation contains elements that suggests some direct assessment of ASD is needed in order to establish is further evaluation of ASD is warranted.  This evaluation is conducted only following an ASD Screening Diagnostic Interview.

Pros: Can rule-out ASD as a possible diagnosis.  Provides brief written summary of evaluation results.

Cons: Does not diagnosis other possible conditions and additional testing may be required to rule-out ASD.  If ASD cannot be ruled-out, does not provide a diagnosis of ASD. May not be covered by your insurance. Requires referral following an ASD Screening Diagnostic Interview conducted by Portland Autism Center.
